Zur politischen Dimension des Digitalen
Internationale bilinguale Tagung, 29.09.-01.10.2016, Institut für Europäische Ethnologie/Kulturwissenschaft der Philipps-Universität Marburg
Herzlich willkommen auf der Webseite für die Tagung „Zur politischen Dimension des Digitalen“ der Kommission Digitalisierung im Alltag in der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Volkskunde.
Die Tagung möchte die Bedeutung der Digitalisierung für demokratische Teilhabe, Aktivismus und den politischen Meinungsbildungsprozess beleuchten. Die ermächtigenden Potentiale des Internets hinsichtlich der Partizipation insbesondere marginalisierter Gruppen und der Chancen für gesellschaftliche Veränderungen wurden insbesondere in der Frühphase der Nutzung digitaler Medien betont. Aktuell werden politische Aspekte der Digitalisierung in den Diskussionen um „big data“ und Netzneutralität sowie Vorratsdatenspeicherung und andere Überwachungsmaßnahmen als Schutz vor Terror verhandelt.
Von diesen Diskursivierungen ausgehend, wird auf der Tagung die Frage nach dem Politischen im Digitalen neu gestellt. Die Tagung fokussiert folgende Themenfelder:
1. Digitale Praktiken und Aktivismus
2. Konstituierung von Öffentlichkeiten
3. Partizipation und Teilhabe

On the Political Dimension of the Digital

Welcome to the Website for the conference „On the Political Dimension of the Digital“ of the Commission Digitization in Everyday Life in the German Society for Cultural Anthropology and Folklore Studies.
The conference aims to shed light on the significance of digitalization for democratic participation, activism and the political opinion forming process.
Especially in the early years of digital media use, the empowering potential of the internet regarding the participation especially of marginalized groups and the chances of societal changes were emphasized. Others however stressed the danger of radicalization and pointed to the concentration of power and commercialization of digital infrastructures. At the moment political aspects of digitalization are negotiated within discussions about “big data”, network neutrality, the retention of data and other surveillance measures as a protection against terrorism.
Starting from these discursivations, the conference aims to raise anew the issue of the political aspect of the digital. The conference will focus on the following three topics:
1. Digital practices and activism
2. Constitution of Public Spheres
3. Participation and Inclusion
